Medical Student

Joseph RosenthalResearch Interest: I am interested in furthering our understanding of the relationship between the aging body, its aging immune system, and cancer. To pursue this, I am using new mouse models for aging, studying their immunity and their responses to cancer-causing stimuli at the cellular and molecular levels. By studying how the “epigenetic” quality of a cell’s genetic information – how it is organized, maintained, and protected – changes with age, and how those changes affect both cancer-prone normal cells and the immune system cells hunting them, my research looks to leverage the aging process as a common thread among diverse cancers. Such commonalities can be potent tools both in unlocking further fundamental understanding of the complicated collection of diseases that is cancer, as well as potentially guiding future medical practice.
