Research in our lab has led to models explaining how mutant yellow alleles complement each other when they are paired.  In the transcription-based model, enhancers can act in trans on the promoter of a paired homolog when the cis promoter is non-functional.  In the structure-based model, pairing of structurally different alleles leads to looping out of non-homologous regions of DNA, bringing enhancers closer to their promoter.  In both models, homolog pairing must precede transvection.

My research addresses pairing.  My questions are:
1.  What are the requirements for pairing at the yellow locus?
2.  What are the requirements for pairing between yellow transgenes?
3.  Do chromosomes in yeast pair and allow for transvection?
