In this graph of the intensities of the top 300 spots on a microarray with and without adjustment by masliner, a saturated spot on a microarray is assigned the maximum intensity (65,535 intensity units). All 300 spots were saturated prior to adjustment with masliner. However processing of scans measured at multiple sensitivities reveals the dynamic range that exists between these values as determined by data obtained within the linear range. In the example shown, a series of masliner adjustments using data from 4 scans increased the intensity of the brightest spot on the array in from 65,535 (saturation) to 1.5 million units, a 25-fold increase in signal intensity range with an estimated error of 0.3%.
