This is a quick and easy way to visualize proteins transfered to nitrocellulose following SDS PAGE. It is about half as sensitive as coomasie blue staining.

• Following transfer to nitrocellulose quickly place the membrane in the 1X Ponceau Stain and shake for approximately 5 minutes.

• Transfer the membrane to the Ponceau Destain and shake until the bands are visible.

• The molecular weight markers can be permanently marked using a S&S Pen even when the membrane is still wet.
