Research Assistant

Conrad RinaldiResearch Interest: We are interested in identifying naturally occurring small molecules that may be used as therapeutic agents for metabolic and age-associated diseases. As a research assistant, I am assisting on a several projects that attempt to elucidate the molecular mechanisms that drive aging as well as potential targets for therapeutics that can slow or reverse the aging process. Currently my focus is on isolating and characterizing metabolites that are found in a strain of yeast that was altered in our lab to produce increased quantities of a particular NAD+ precursor and has since been found to produce a number of other beneficial small molecules. My goal is to study the mechanisms by which these molecules increase NAD+ and their subsequent impact on health and longevity in order to create more effective therapeutics.
