Structure and Grading LECTURES: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 9:00 AM -10:20 AM, Building C, Cannon Room. SECTIONS: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 9:00 AM -10:20 AM; dates and locations as indicated on the sections assignments page. The teaching fellows will lead discussions revolving around questions from lecture material and problem sets which have been handed in (problem sets in progress will not be discussed). TAs will also work through additional practice problems with students during this time. SUPPLEMENTARY LECTURES: Four lectures will take place roughly every three weeks, 12:30 -1:30 PM; (see schedule for dates). These lectures will all take place in the MEC building, room 250 (227 on November 10th). Instructor-led session to review topics from lecture material, with opportunities for students to ask questions. Attendance is encouraged but not required. OFFICE HOURS: By appointment with individual professors. COURSE READING: Textbook (optional) is Genetics: Analysis of Genes and Genomes, by Daniel Hartl and Elizabeth Jones. This textbook may be purchased at the Medical Coop. Copies will also be available on reserve at Countway Library. Students will be provided with an online bibliography of readings at the bibliography link. There will also be secondary papers available that have been selected by lecturers for those students who may wish to have a deeper exposure to a particular topic. These papers will either be at this site on the bibliography page, on reserve in Countway, or in Countway's journal areas. PROBLEM SETS: Problem sets will be distributed roughly every three weeks, for a total of four problem sets during the semester. Each problem set will be graded for credit. Answers will be collected from students by the end of class on dates provided in syllabus. Problem sets turned in late will not be accepted. Solutions for each problem set will be posted on this site just after the class at which they are due. TAs cannot assist students with problem set questions and will only discuss them after solutions have been turned in. EXAMS: GRADING: Grades are based on midterm exam (37%), final exam (38%) and four take-home problem sets (25%). REGRADE POLICY: Regrade requests must be submitted in writing and accompanied by the graded problem, within 1 week of receiving original grade. Requests will be reviewed by a different grader and returned to the student as promptly as possible. |
