Configure Netscape/Mozilla Email to Read and Send Mail on Receptor

Install Mozilla 1.7.13 or later
Select Mail and Newsgroups from the Windows Menu

If you have not already set up an email account, the Email Setup Wizard will start immediately.

  • Otherwise, select Mail and Newsgroup Account Settings... from the Edit Menu
  • Then select Add Account

Fill in your full name as you want it displayed on your emails and your email address.

The Genetics Department email domain is

@genetics.med.harvard.edu

Enter receptor.med.harvard.edu as your incoming server and select whether you want to use IMAP or POP to read your email

Enter the username you use to log into receptor. Netscape/Mozilla only allows you to use one outgoing server at a time. If you are adding an account, the existing one will be used.

If Mozilla is being set up for the first time, select receptor.med.harvard.edu as your Outgoing (SMTP) server and use your username to authenticate.
Enter the name you want this account to appear under in the list of accounts
Your email accounts settings should resemble:
If you are setting up your first account, Mozilla will now attempt to read email on receptor. This will fail, because they encryption settings are not yet set. Re-enter the Mail Accounts and Newsgroup Setup menus. If this is a second email account, you will already be in the Mail Accounts and Newsgroup Setup menu.

Click on Server Settings for the account you just created.

Make sure Use secure connection (SSL) is checked. This will change the Port to 993 or 995 for POP.

Select Outgoing Server (SMTP)

The Server Name should be receptor.med.harvard.edu

The SMTP Port should be 25

Make sure Use name and password is checked and that your username is filled in

Make sure TLS is selected as the secure connection
Click OK to finish set up. You should now be able to read and send email on receptor.
